Silicone hump hose has a bulge in it that is designed to allow the joint to flex. Silicone hump hose allows for expansion and movement between pipes. By allowing a little flex in things you have less chance of pulling connections loose and there is less stress on the rest of the piping. They also allow for slight misalignment between pipes.
