Grow tips:
How the different wavelengths of color influence plant growth
  1. 6200 – 280 nm UVC ultraviolet range is extremely harmful to the plants because it is highly toxic.
  2. 280 – 315 nm Includes harmful UVB ultraviolet light which causes the color of the plants to fade.
  3. 315 – 380 nm range of UVA ultraviolet light is neither harmful nor beneficial to the plant growth.
  4. 380 – 400 nm  range is the start of visible light spectrum. Process of chlorophyll absorption begins. UV protected plastics ideally block out any light below this range.
  5. 400 – 520 nm range includes violet, blue, and green bands. Peak absorption by chlorophyll occurs, and it has a strong influence on the process of photosynthesis (promotes vegetative growth).
  6. 520 – 610 nm range includes the green, yellow, and orange bands and is absorbed in less quantity by the pigments.
  7. 610 – 720 nm is the red band. Large amount of absorption by chlorophyll occurs, and it has the most significant influence on photosynthesis (promotes flowering and budding).
  8. 720 – 1000 nm range, much less absorption by the chlorophyll occurs. Flowering and germination is influenced. The high end of the band is infrared, which is heat.
  9. 1000+ nm is totally the infrared range. All energy absorbed at this point is converted to heat.
