Description

The outer ring raceway of self-aligning ball bearings forms a spherical surface whose center is common to the bearing center. The inner ring of the bearing has two raceways. The balls, cage, and inner ring of these bearings are capable of a shifting in order to compensate ofr a certain degree of misalignment with the outer rings. As a result, the bearing is able to align itself and compensate for shaft / housing finishing uneverness, bearing fitting error, and other sources of misalignment.

Standard cage types

Self aligning ball bearngs use pressed cages wiht the exception of the 1200-1206 series which use molded resin cages. The material characteristics of hte resin cages make them unsuitable for use in applications where temperatures exceed 120°C.

Allowable misalignment angle

Listed below are the allowable misalignment angles for bearings with selfaligning characteristics when placed under normal load conditions. This degree of allowable misalignment may be limitecd by the design of structures around the bearing.

Allowable misalignment under normal loads (loads equivalent to 0.09 Cr); 0.07 rad (4°)
