Shell large, readily recognized by the large adult size and green color with reddish blotches. Shoulder angulate with numerous rounded knobs, columella smooth and arched. Aperture irisdecent, outer lip thin and angulate posteriorly. Operculum white, heavy and calcareous. Mother-of-pearl of this species is of the best quality and much sought after by craftsmen in Asian countries. This is is the most expensive shell in shell craft. The shell is cut into small rectangular pieces and then inlaid into furniture. Its nacre is made of calcium carbonate but due to special structure, it reflects sunlight into variuos colorful lights (green, blue, red...).
