Composition: Each ml contains Aminophylline:25mg
It is a sterile water solution of Aminophylline. The anhydrous theophylline
(C7H8N4O2) content should be 73.25-88.25% of the stated amount of aminophylline. Adequate quantity of ethylenediamine is added as a stabilizer.
Indications: It is a vascular and bronchial dilator and diuretic, it can relax involuntary muscle and dilate blood vessels and has cardiac stimulating and diuretic action. It is chiefly used in bronchial asthma and is also useful in acute cardiac failure or as a diuretic.
Action: Aminophylline is one of the most effective bronchial dilators. Intravenous injection of aminophylline should be considered as the first choice remedy for intractable bronchial asthma. Most of the patients will feel much relieved almost immediately after the injection but the duration of action differs from individuals. Continuous administration should be given to avoid recurrence. Intravenous injection of aminophylline can increase the rate of renal glomerular filtration, so it has certain diuretic effect.
Administration and Dosage: For intravenous use. It can be diluted by 30ml of 5% Glucose injection and should be injected slowly.
Usual Dose: 10-20ml. (0.25-0.5gm) once.
Maximum Dose: 20ml (0.5gm) once. Use only on medical advice.
Contra Indication: Hypersensitivity has been associated with the ethylenediamine content.
