Century cooking vessel

 

Bronze vessels were used to contain the wine and food which were offered up in ceremonies performed at the altar of the ancestral shrine.Their possession and use seems to have beem restricted to the king,the royal family ,and the aristocracy.Bronze thus was related to power and divinity.

The vessel follows the style of the round pot in late Shang Dynasty.li has vertical ears,a deep belly and pillar feet.The belly is decorated with animal faces and is divided by ridges.The vessel as a whole looks stable,elegant and beautiful.
