Barytes-Natural Barium Sulfate
barytes, or barite is one of the most abundant and widely distributed minerals throughout the world. it is mined commercially for the base element barium, which is used as a function filler/pigment extender in the manufacturing of products like coating, rubber plastics, ceramic, glass and friction materials, or used as a mud for sealing oil wells during the drilling process. barytes is aslo used for radiation shielding and additive in heavy concrete. the other main application is for production of barium chemicals. barytes are useful in such a variety of applications as they are chemically inert(eg. acid resistant).they have a high density, a low oil absorption, and a low refractive index, barytes are radiopaque ,and they are UV light reflectors. they positively impact the performance properties of formulated products.
