About pressed leaf sculpture:
Pressed leaf sculpture is a new botanical art originated in a small town China, created by the folk artist 'Huang Taisheng’. Mr. Huang has been engaged in this botanical art for over thirty years. In 1994, his leaf sculpture was listed in the Guinness World Records.
In recent years some folk artists in ARTISTIC LEAF WORKSHOP who inherit and develop this craft, create lots of artwork popular by people who love botanical art.
Process of this pressed leaf sculpture in ARTISTIC LEAF WORKSHOP is very complicated. Every piece leaf sculpture would be taken more than 20 processes to be created. First choose the suitable fall leaf for the unique pattern, then immerse the leaf in water for days, clean the leaf, and with other processes including biological treatment, rubbing, steam, set the pattern, press and dry, sculpture and so on. The whole process is 100% handmade by the professional folk artists.
This leaf sculpture adopts the performance of painting, sculpture, seal cutting, paper cutting and handwriting. According to leaf’s shape, veins and artist’s creativity, sculpture various pattern on the leaf of phoenix trees.
You would find this pressed leaf sculpture is super thin as the wing of cicada, with the advantage of acid, alkaline and damp resistant and not easy to be mouldy or wormed. It is soft to the feel as silk.
