DVI (Digital Video Interface) is the first generation of digital video cable.  The specification of DVI was first released in 1999 by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG).  The group initially consisted of HP, IBM, Compaq, NEC, Intel, Fujitsu, and Silicon Image.
The specification of DVI incorporated the Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) technology, which provided an efficient way of transmitting high-speed data up to 1.65Gbps which support up to 1080P video signal resolution.
