  Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin. It is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against Gram-positive organisms and many Gram-negative pathogens. Physical characteristics: a white or almost white crystalline powder, practically, odourless when pure and has a bitter taste. High humidity and high temperature adversely affect stability. The pH. is 3,5 to 6 (0,2 % solution in water).

It is sparingly soluble in water and practically insoluble in: ethanol (96%), chloroform, ether and fixed oils. It dissolves in dilute solutions of acids and of alkali hydroxides. Amoxicillin has a convenient three times daily dosage schedule. It is rapidly absorbed from the stomach and achieves consistently high blood levels. It is considerated to be bactericidal.
