Paper-faced gypsum board uses natural gypsum and guarding surface paper as its main raw materials, mixing with adequate fibre, starch, coagulant agent, vesicant and water and so on produced a new type of light construction sheet. As the paper-faced gypsum board has the advantages of light, fireproofing, sound insulation, heat preservation, heat insulation, strong sound processing (which can be planed, nailed and cut), construction convenient, removable performance, increase the use of the area and so on. So it is used in commercial office buildings, schools, shops, residential, bus terminal, railway stations, airports, scientific research establishments, restaurants, hospitals, cinemas, arena, KTV and other industrial buildings and civil construction, particularly in high-rise buildings can be used as the internal wall material and decoration material. Such as shelves structure for non-load bearing walls, indoor paste me tope board, calling and so on.
Paper-faced gypsum board has many types while there are three common categories in the market as following:
1. Common paper-faced gypsum board: ivory board core, gray paper, is the most economic and common varieties. No matter brushing primer in his surface or directly as the end surface can give the desired results. It applies to the place where have no special requirements and the using place where the relative humidity is no more than 65%.
2. Water-resistant paper-faced gypsum board: It was developed and produced as a light plate to resist indoor high humidity environment. Its gypsum core was mixed with high-performance organic thinning agent as well as the special treated import waterproof paper. All these greatly improve and enhance the water resistance and hydrophobic of gypsum board. The water-resistant paper-faced gypsum board applies to the place where the relative humidity is no more than 95%, such as toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and so on.
3. Fire-resistant paper-faced gypsum board: After special treated pink paper is used as the guarding surface paper. Its board core adds fire-resistant materials and lots of glass fiber. Particularly applies to calling, walls, elevators, the lining of the secure access, staircases, as well as the wrapping of the columns, beams which has high requirements of fire-resistance.
As a kind of new construction material the paper-faced gypsum board has the characters as following:
(1) Low production consumption, high production efficiency. Saving 78% consumption comparing with cement while producing the same unit. Also large capacity and low investment, simple process for mass production.
(2) Light: using the paper-faced gypsum board as the separating walls, its weight is only 1/15 of the same thickness comparing with the brick wall, 1/10 of block wall, in favor of anti-seismic, and effectively reducing the cost of base and main structure.
(3) Keeping temperature and insulation: there are about 60% pores in the paper-faced gypsum board core. Due to a very small thermal conductivity of air, it has good insulation of light.
(4) Fire-resistance performance: as a result of non-combustible the gypsum core itself, and the process when release compound water absorption lots of heat, will delay the increase in ambient temperature. The fire-resistance limitation of the paper-faced gypsum board separating wall can reach up to 4 hours.
(5) Good noise insulation performance: the use of a single light-weight material, such as aerated concrete, expanded perlite board etc. Consisting of single-wall. Only its thickness is very big can satisfy the request of the noisy insulation. While the paper-faced gypsum board as separate walls have special cavity structure and good noisy insulation.
(6) Well construction function: The surface of paper-faced gypsum board is smooth. Dealing with joint technical between board form seamless surfaces which can be used to decorate directly.
(7) Convenient processing and good constructability: paper-faced gypsum board can be nailed, planed, cut, and sticky. Used indoor decoration can achieve the desired effect. Only a knife can cut the paper-faced gypsum board freely, constructing is very convenient. Using it as decoration materials can improve the efficiency greatly.
(8) Comfortable living functions: as the big hole of the gypsum board, and the appropriate distribution of the pore, it has high permeability performance. When the indoor humidity is high, the board can absorb the damp, while the air is dry, the board can release some water, so it can adjust the humidity of the room. In foreign countries the function is called breathe function. It is the special breathe function that the gypsum board has, can adjust the humidity in a range indoor, making the living conditions comfortable.
(9) Green and environmental protection: paper-faced gypsum board using natural gypsum as its raw materials doesn’t conclude asbestos which is harmful to human body. (Most silicic acid calcium board and cement fiber board adopt asbestos as the board’s swell materials).
(10)Save room: using gypsum board as walls, its smallest thickness can reach up to 74 mm, also can ensure the noisy insulation and fireproof performance.
