II. Introduction:
Due to increasing energy prices and decreasing sales revenues of spent grains, a special process to use spent grains has been developed. The spent grains are dewatered mechanically using a BELT PRESS, and then incinerated utilizing biomass combustion. One metric ton of wet spent grains can produce approximately one 1000 kWh of thermal energy.

Depending on the combustion technology, 70-75 % of this energy can be used. The BELT PRESS has been especially adapted to the specific requirements of spent grains. Due to its high efficiency, the belt press separates up to 520 kg of water from 1 ton of wet spent grains.Therefore the efficiency of the whole process increases considerably.
