【Pharmacological effects】 (the role of this product is the same as ferrous sulfate) Pharmacodynamics: iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, myoglobin and various enzymes (cytochrome oxidase, succinate dehydrogenase, xanthine oxidase). Thus, iron deficiency will not only cause anemia, may also affect other physiological functions. Dietary intake is usually sufficient to maintain the normal iron balance in the body; however, in lactation period, pregnancy period, and some cases of iron-deficiency anemia, the requirement of iron are increase. Iron supplement can correct abnormal physiological symptoms and a decline in hemoglobin levels caused by iron deficiency.

   

This product is used to control iron-deficiency anemia, such as chronic blood loss, malnutrition, pregnancy and lactation piglet anemia.

Pharmacokinetics: Iron dextran slowly absorbed through lymphatic system after intramuscular injection. Within 3 days after injection about 60% of iron is absorbed; 1 to 3 weeks after injection the absorption rate reaches about 90% . The remaining drug may be slowly absorbed within a few months. Liver, spleen and reticuloendothelial cells in bone marrow can gradually cleared the absorption of drugs from plasma.

From the dissociation of iron dextran, iron immediately combine with protein molecules to form hemosiderin, ferritin, or transferrin.  Dextran is metabolized or excreted.
