Usage: PEX is a xanthate, a kind of flotation reagent, based on the C2 alkyl ethyl alcohol in the potassium salt form. Potassium ethyl xanthate is the weakest xanthate , but is very selective given the correct chemical conditions. It is best for the recovery of sulfides that are relatively hydrophobic like galena. It can recover all sulfides but because of its weak nature, the flotation kinetics are very slow. Flotation Collector PEX(potassium ethyl xanthate) is not recommended for copper sulfide or copper-activated sphalerite flotation unless the head grades are low. This is due to the large retention required to compensate for the slow kinetics. It is also not recommend for partially oxidized ores because it will not have the pulling strength to recover wanted minerals.
PEX is recommended for lead-zinc ores, low grade copper ores, and ores that contain a minimal amount of zinc. Mining Collector PEX will be selective against iron sulfides at lower pHs than other xanthates.
It is also used as vulcanization accelerator for rubber industry as well as the precipitant in wetting metallurgical industry.
