Fire hood is made from flexible, intumescent-coated glass cloth, which has a variant that can house a transformer for low-voltage fittings.

UK current building and wiring regulations have meant firehoods have become a necessity. Not only does a Firehood seal to stop fire penetration into the ceiling void left by fittings for up to one hour, but in normal use also offers ventilation to prevent the light fitting from overheating.
