Function: It is one of amino-glucoside antibiotics, inhibiting protein synthesis of bacteria, having strong inhibiting activities against most Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. It effectively inhibits, Staphylococcus aureus, E. Coli, Pyogenes, Shigella, Salmonella, Klebsiella, and Spirochaetes.
It has strong antibacterial activity in basic environment; very few of the drugs can be absorbed in the GI track. About 97% of the drug remains in intestine and providing antibiotic role. Its antibacterial activity is stable even in excreta.
