The root of skullcap is used as traditional Chinese medicines for over 2000 years, and is considered to be one of the 50 fundamental herbs.

 

Active ingredient of this root is a flavonoid compound, baicalin.

Skullcap root is a febrifuge, cholagogue, diuretic and expectorant, and used internally in the treatment of enteritis, dysentery, diarrhoea, jaundice, chronic hepatitis, urinary tract infections, nosebleed and haemorrhage from the lungs or bowel. It reputedly calms the foetus in pregnant women.

Skullcap root extract improves the immune system, increases energy, products the liver, and strengthens bones. Furthermore it improves phagocytes and promotes blood circulation. Especially effective in lowering blood pressure of patients with hypertension.
