Appearance: white crystal or block

Properties: Colorless cubic crystal, white or gray, with granular, honeycomb block, spherical, irregular granular, and powder; Non-toxic, odorless, tasting bitter. Solution in water is strong. Exposed in the air, it is easily deliquescent. Soluble calcium chloride can be used to blend a number of water-insoluble calcium compound precipitations. Electrolyzing calcium chloride obtains pure calcium.

Purposes: 1> Industrial Use:

A. Anhydrous calcium chloride is commonly used as drying agent in the industry and laboratory, such as for nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide and other gases, but not for alcohol and ammonia. It is used as dehydrating agent in producing alcohols, esters, ethers and acrylic resin.

B. It is used as materials for producing calcium metal, barium chloride, and various calcium salt (such as calcium phosphate etc.).

C. It is used as freeze-proof agent in the construction industry to accelerate hardening of concrete and increase cold-resistant capacity of building mortar.

D. It is used as culture medium of haploid breeding in the microbiological industry.

E. It is used for determining carbon content of steel, and vitality of serum inorganic phosphorus and serum alkaline phosphatase, etc. in analytical chemistry.

F.  It is used as protective agent and refine agent for aluminum and magnesium metallurgy.

G. It is used as fireproofing agent of textile, antifogging agent of harbor, dust-collecting agent of road surface, and food preservative, etc..

H. It is used as precipitating agent of producing mordant pigment.

I.  It is used as deinking agent of waste paper processing.

Calcium chloride solution is the important refrigerant in the refrigeration industry. It is also used as flocculating agent in the sodium alginate and bean products industry.

        2> Medical Use:

A. It is used in tetany, intestinal colic, and ureteral colic caused by lower blood calcium.

B. It is used in urticaria, leachability dropsy, and chronic skin diseases caused by hypocalcaemia.

It is used in rescuing magnesium salt poisoning.

C. It is used in vitamin D deficient rickets and chondropathy, pregnant woman and lactating women’s calcium salt supplement.
