The Chlamydia Rapid Test is a chromatographic immunoassay (CIA) for direct qualitative detection of Chlamydia Trachomatis antigen in endocervical or endourethral swab specimens. It is intended for professional use only.
Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most common sexually transmitted pathogens. Approximately 4 million new cases occur each year in the United States. It is a major cause of cervicitis, urethritis, endometritis, and pelvic inflammatory disease in women. Serious complications can result in salpingitis, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. If transmitted to infants during birth, Chlamydia can cause conjunctivitis and pneumonia. In men, complications of Chlamydia infections include: urethritis and epididymitis. At least 40% of the nongonococcal urethritis cases are associated with Chlamydia infections. Approximately 70% of women with endocervical infections and up to 50% of men with urethral infections are asymptomatic, which makes diagnosis extremely important.
