Pure anhydrous sodium hydroxide is white translucent, crystalline solid. Solid sodium hydroxide has strong moisture absorption, it is easily mixed with water and release heat.There is a strong corrosive, water absorption, can be used as desiccant.not dry sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen chloride gas.
