CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose) is a cellulose derivative with carboxy methyl groups(-CH2COOH) bound to some of the hydroxyl groups of the glucopyranose monomers that make up the cellulose backbone. It is often used as its sodium salt, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose.
