Fucoidan is a complex natural sulfated polysaccharide extracted from brown seaweed such as Laminaria Japonica and , composed largely of a -L-fucose, one of the eight essential biological sugars, and natural organic sulfate. Fucoidan is thought as one of the ocean's greatest treasures by many scientists and researchers.
Many types of brown seaweed, such as Laminaria Japonica, consists of contains a polysaccharide known as Fucoidan. Discovery of Apotosis induction by Fucoidan was disclosed at the 55 th Annual proceedings of the Japanese Cancer Society (1996) and much noticed. Fucoidan exists in all kinds of brown algae which has similar biological properties to heparin, a sulfated polyssaccharine in Human's blood , therefore Fucoidan has several functions such as inhibiting blood clotting, lowering cholesterol levels and anti-tumor agent. |
