In case well head pressure is too high, the killing manifold can be used to pump drilling fluid down the hole to balance bottom hole pressure so as to prevent blowout; or with the blow-off pipe lines connected to it, it can drain fluids from the well so to reduce bottom hole pressure. Cement can be injected into the well through kill manifold during a cementing operation, and water or extinguish agent can be injected when necessary. Check valves ensure fluids flow one-way down hole, but no backflow occurs.
The kill manifold consists of check valves, gate valves, pressure gauges and pipe lines. One end of it is connected to the drilling spool, and the other is connected to the pump. Both choke manifold and kill manifold are made in conformity with API 16C standard. NICETY kill manifold has 5 classes of working pressure: 14MPa, 21MPa, 35MPa, 70MPa, 105MPa.
Rated pressure of all the pipe lines, gate valves and check valve should match that of the BOP complex.
Kill manifold is not supposed to be used for regular drilling fluids injection.
