Properties:lt is colorless hexagonal ,odorless and tasteless crysteless crystal with relative density 2.679.It ishygroscopic. It is soluble in ether,insoluble in alcohol.The solubility in acid is greater than in water.It decomposes in alkaline solution and produces sodium fluoride and silicon dioxide.It is decomposed to sodium fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride by heating to300℃.It is toxic.

 

Usages:Fluorspar is the main primary source of fluorine and its compds.ln ferrous metallurgy it is used as a flux to increase the fluidity of the slag The steelindustry is the largest consumer; the chemicalindustry,second and ceramics,third.
