Sodium alginate has an impressive thickening ability makes it a great compound for dyeing as well as textile and printing. The sodium alginate offers fabric a slinky appearance and makes the dye in it hold on longer.
Sodium alginate, when used for printing, can alter the dyeing reaction in a good way. It can actually make the fabric smooth with brighter colors. The great thing about this compound is that it is suitable with diverse textiles including synthetic fiber, silk, cotton, and wool. In a more chemical explanation, sodium alginate cannot react with a textile’s active coloring thus it cannot produce a covalent bond. Its low and moderate viscosity makes it ideal for manual and screen type printing.
Additionally, the sodium alginate is used as an ink thickener for printing too.
