Ultrasonic assisted drilling device

Ultrasonic assisted drilling is a hybrid machining process combining the material removal mechanisms of conventional ultrasonic machining and diamond grinding, which has been shown to be a promising, cost-effective machining method for hard, brittle materials. Such as Silicon, Silicon carbide, Ceramic composites, Quartz, Alumina, Alumina nitride, Fiber optics, Zirconia, Glass, Sapphire……

Ultrasonic assisted drilling superimposes rotational movement on the tool head that vibrates simultaneously at ultrasonic frequency. The tool is made of mild steel coated or bonded with diamond abrasive. Compared with ultrasonic machining, it can provide a much high material removal, deep holes, and fine precision, which leads to its further application.

Advantages of ultrasonic assisted drilling are following:

Higher cutted surface quality Ra,

Increase of geometrical precision,

Smaller burrs are created,

Tool life-circle is increased friction reduction between the tool and cutting chip.

Further reduce the cutting force, which is suitable in cutting brittle materials.
