Description
Brown Fused Alumina (BFA) is a very refractory, hard and chemically resistant material. It is produced by the smelting of Calcined Bauxite in an electric arc furnace at temperatures greater than 2000°C. A slow solidification process follows the fusion, to yield blocky crystals. It is brown and compared to White Fused Alumina, Brown Fused Alumina is tougher and not quite as brittle, this is due to its relatively high Ti02 content. Its high hardness and toughness make it highly suitable for grinding metals of high tensile strength. This is due to its relatively high Ti02 content.
Application
Brown Fused Alumina is characterized by its high abrasive effect due to its block form and hardness. In the sand casting industry, Brown Fused Alumina can be used as special sand for core production. The use of this sand enables excellent surface properties to be achieved, free of the veining defects typically produced by silica sand. Due to the high refractoriness, Brown Fused Alumina is suitable for casting all type of metals sand alloys.
It can also be used in manufacturing of grinding wheels (both vitrified and resin bonded) and coated products, shot blasting and as polishing media. Refractory grade BFA is used as a raw material in the manufacture of high alumina refractories.

Available Grain Sizes & Standard
A wide range of grain size choices are available as well as custom precision blending. This process ensures a very consistent grain size distribution from coarsest granular size to the finest powders.
Grain sizes standards have been issued for full ranges of Macrogrit and Microgrit sizes by FEPA, ANSI and JIS.
FEPA—— European Federation of Abrasives Producers
ANSI——American National Standards Institute
JIS——Japanese Standardization Organization
