Name of product
Grain refiner
Brand
Desofin
Form of product
50g/capsule, can be put into the copper melt together with the sealing aluminum capsule packing while being used.
Consumption
150 grams capsule for each 1metric ton of melted brass or melted alloy
Alloy requirements
◆Suitable for all copper alloy, including pure copper (99.85%) , Work best on brass alloy.
◆Can be used to lower the casting temperatures and increase the castability and fluidity of the aluminum bronze, red brass and tin bronze.
◆Also proper for aluminum high pressure casting, parts will come out bright and shiny
◆Can be used on the dross which is being removed from the melt to get the trapped metal to flow back to the pool of liquid metal
◆Also good for nickel, silver and gold to clean and grain refine.
Method of use
◆Products shall be free of any moisture.
◆Any adjustments to the aluminum or zinc content of the melt should be made prior to adding Desofin.
◆The surface of the melt should be reasonably free of slag.
◆Desofin should be added to the melt by immersing the capsules at least 100 cm. below the liquid metal surface using a bell shaped plunger and the furnace should be in low tap.
◆Stir the melt uniformly after putting Desofin into it.
Expected benefits
◆Improved Fluidity of the metal to be cast.
◆Lower the casting Temperatures are possible depending on the size of the part to be cast and the type of mold to be used. Generally between 940 and 980 degrees C for beryllium copper molds.
◆Lower temperatures are possible if the iron steel molds are used.
◆Cracking Tendencies of the parts to be cast are greatly reduced and most often, cracks are eliminated.
◆The occurrence of the sinks is greatly reduced.
◆Lead is more uniformly distributed in the fine grain structure.
Potential savings
◆Savings over the cost of purchasing fine grained ingot.
◆Reduction of casting scrap.
◆Reduction in finishing and rework costs.
◆Energy savings resulting from lower casting temperatures.
◆It is not necessary to refine foundry scrap, i.e. gates, risers and turnings already grain refined.
