Iron Ore Rod Mill Application:
As with other types of mills, a rod mill is used to grind material into fine powder, but differs from a ball mill in that it employs long steel rods instead of balls as the grinding medium. The mill length is limited by manufacturing constraints for the grinding rods. Rod mills are typically used for grinding ores, coal/coke, and other materials for both wet and dry applications. Length-to-diameter ratios should be kept above 1.4 to prevent rod entanglement. In general, rod mills create a coarser product than do ball mills. Rod mill speed is typically slower than a ball mill.
