Rotary Ultrasonic Drilling has been one of the main method for machining hard-brittle materials, Such as Silicon, Silicon carbide, Ceramic composites, Quartz, Alumina, Alumina nitride, Fiber optics, Zirconia, Glass, Sapphire…
Compared with conventional ultrasonic drilling, RUD revolutionizes the whole sector both in reducing the cost and in improving the efficiency. There is a crucial need for the development of drilling processes which are capable of achieving high material removal rate while maintaining the surface/subsurface damage to the machined parts at an acceptable level. Rotary Ultrasonic Drilling (RUD), a hybrid drilling process combining the material removal mechanisms of diamond grinding and ultrasonic machining, has the potential to do so.
Achievements of Rotary ultrasonic drilling:
Saving processing cost by increasing efficiency and reducing wear
Higher surface quality,
Improving geometrical precision,
Smaller burrs are created,
Tool life-circle is increased friction reduction between the tool and cutting chip.
Further reduce the cutting force, which is suitable in cutting brittle materials.
