1.Description of Lithium Ion Battery
As a rechargeable battery, Li-ion battery is mainly operated by the moving between the positive and negative pole of lithium ion .In the process of charging and discharging, Li + in the round trip between two electrodes embedded and de-intercalation: the rechargeable battery, Li + from positive to take off the embedded, after electrolyte embedded negative, negative in a rich lithium state; Discharge on the contrary. Lithium elements is commonly used as the electrode battery, which represents modern high performance battery.
2.Characteristics of Li-ion Battery
1).HIGH WORKING VOLTAGE
The Li-ion battery is three times greater than nickel cadmium, the nimb batteries, nearly 2 times
greater than the lead acid batteries , namely, the specific energy of lithium ion battery is higher than other conventional battery. For example, 36 V Li-ion battery need 10 monomer batteries while 36 V lead-acid battery need 18 monomer batteries.
2).LIGHT WEIGHT
With specific energy as high as 150Wh/Kg, Li-ion battery is by two times lighter than NI-MH battery and by four times lighter than lead-acid cell. Therefore, weight of Lithium battery is one-third to a quarter of the lead-acid batteries of the same energy.From this perspective, the lithium consumed less resources. For example, the weight of electric bikes with lithium-ion battery is 2.2-4 kg while lead-acid batteries weighing 12-20 kg. Lithium weighs about a quarter to a third of the lead-acid batteries, lighter than lead-acid batteries about10 kg (36V, 10Ah batteries), thus battery weight reduces 70% of the total vehicle weight of at least 20% lighter. As ordinary lithium trams are simple designs of electric bicycles, due to its lighter battery and vehicle, lithium batteries with equal voltage and capacity are able to run longer. Since ordinary electric bicycles weigh over 40kg, Li-ion power battery electric bicycle only weigh between 7 to 26kg. Women and the elderly can easily move. It is also portable for riding, sporting and entertaining.
3).SMALL IN SIZE
Specific energy reach up to 400Wh/L, the volume of Li-ion battery is one half to one third of lead-acid battery, which provides a more reasonable structure and more beautiful appearance of the design conditions, design space and possibilities.
4).LONG CYCLE LIFE
Recycle times can reach 1000-3000 times. Take 70% capacity for example, battery pack 100%
charge-discharge cycle-index can reach 200 times , working life 5 to 8 years, which is about two to three times of lead-acid battery..
5). LOW SELF-DISCHARGE
Self-discharge also know as charge retention ability, which is the battery storage of electricity in
certain environmental conditions to maintain capacity in the open state. Self-discharge rate of a fully charged Li-ion battery at room temperature is about 2%, well below the 25-30% of Ni-Cd, Ni, MH (30-35%).
6).WIDE WORKING TEMPERATURE RANGE
Good low temperature performance enables lithium-ion battery to work between -40 ° C to +60 ° C, while the aqueous solution batteries (such as lead-acid batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries) at low temperatures, due to the electrolyte, deterioration of liquidity will lead to performance degradation.
7).NO MEMORY EFFECT
Unlike nickel cadmium battery and nimb batteries, Li-ion battery can be charged in anytime and
anywhere, no need to discharge before charging. Every time before charging don't have to be a need discharge, can at any time and place to charge. Battery charge and discharge depth has little
effect on battery life. And it can be full charged and full released.
8).NON-POLLUTION
Without toxic substances, Lithium-ion battery is well known as "Green environmental protection battery", key supported by the state. Because of the hazardous substances lead and cadmium in Lead-acid batteries and nickel-cadmium batteries, the State is bound to strengthen the regulatory and governance (to cancel the export tax rebate of lead-acid batteries, increase lead resource tax , restrict exporting of lead-acid electric bicycle ) so that the corresponding business cost will increase.
