Alumina is historically the most cost-effective and widely used engineering ceramic. It has a good combination of properties:

· Good hardness and wear resistance
· High strength and stiffness
· Good thermal stability
· Almost chemically inert

Alumina can be produced in purity ranges from 95% up to 99.5% (available in ivory color), for various applications.
