PCD high performance resmers
PCD Reamer
PCD remers are used extensively for high volume machining of aluminum and non-ferrous metals. The automotive industry uses PCD tooling for maching almost all their non-ferrous parts such as engines, transmissions, wheels, and brakes.
Advantages:
1. superior finish part surface quality
2. exceptional finish hole size and tolorance results
3. higher production rates
4. extremely high tool life
PCD tipped tools consist of a carbide body with a PCD (polycrystalline diamond) insert brazed to the cutting portion of the tool.
The PCD insert can withstand abrasion wear and heat degradation to a higher extent than carbide or coated carbide. Due to the cost of PCD, a small segment is fixed to a portion of the cutting tool that is engaged in actual chip formation. PCD tools that are constructed with a brazed insert are sometimes referred to as “fixed pocket” tools.
Once a PCD tipped tool has reached it’s maximum tool life, the PCD inserts can be removed and refurbished in a process called “re-tipping”.
PCD-tipped step reamer with PCD support strips
PCD step reamers have been used for the machining of cylinder bores for regulating pistons in ALSi9Mg material transmission casings. A PCD stepped reamer with 4 PCD supporting strips are able to achieve and IT6 tolorance on diameter with a cutting speed of 201m/min and a feed rate of 0.18mm/rev.
Tool life is up to 300,000 holes per grind!
