Calcium carbide

Introduction:
Calcium carbide is an important basic material in organic synthesis industry, Acetylene obtained from calcium carbide is raw material to make ethylene, chloroprene rubber, calcium cyanamide, aceticacid, acetaldehydr, ethylacetate, cyanideacetate, dicyandiamide, acetone, octanol, trichloride ethylene tec. Also used as desulfurizer and dehydrant of steel and for cutting and welding metals.
 

Grey, brown or black solid, purple when its purity is higher, the specific gravity is 2.22(18), melting point is 2300, the product can absorb water in the air and conduct electricity. They higher its purity is, the easier it conducts, it dissolves in water, turns into acetylene and calcium hydroxide and release heat.

Storage/Transport

Calcium carbide drum should be sealed. Stored in dry, cool and draughty place.Store away from oxidizing substances.Oxygen is required to maintain stability of inhibited monomers.Avoid contact with incompatibles such as oxidizing agents,strong bases,acids and moisture in air.Aoid contact with heat,spark or flame.

Rolling drums, heavy putting down and colliding are not allowed to avoid the spark
