SFD Manufactures High-Performance PCD Wire Shaving Dies
for Aluminum Welding Wire:
PCD is the best choice for wire shaving dies used in producing high-quality aluminum welding wire.
Because of their high abrasion resistance, low friction and cool-running characteristics, PCD wire
shaving dies last much longer than tungsten carbide dies. PCD wire shaving dies produce wire
with very consistent dimensions and a superior, high-quality surface finish.
SF Diamond Co., Ltd. specializes in manufacturer of premium quality PCD products. SFD is the first
manufacturer of PCD wire shaving dies in China, and is one of the largest producers of PCD wire
drawing and wire shaving dies in China. SFD's PCD wire shaving dies are exported to more than
10 countries worldwide.
Why Does PCD Makes Superior Wire Shaving Dies? It Is The Material
Properties:
Polycrystalline Diamond (" PCD" ) is the hardest industrial cutting tool material in the world. The
Vickers hardness (" HV" - N/mm^2) of PCD ranges from 7000HV to 9000HV, where the Vickers
hardness of tungsten carbide is only about 1500HV to 2000HV. This extreme hardness means
PCD tooling has much higher wear resistance and lasts much longer than tungsten carbide in
numerous applications.
PCD has a low coefficient of friction ranging from 0.05-0.3, while the coefficient of friction for
tungsten carbide is 0.4-1.0. This lower coefficient of friction means machining and cutting forces are greatly reduced when using PCD tooling.
PCD has the highest thermal conductivity of all cutting tool materials. The thermal conductivity
of PCD is from 400 to 700W/m*K, where the thermal conductivity of tungsten carbide is
70-90W/m*K. This much higher thermal conductivity is another factor that gives PCD tooling
its superior performance.
All these factors combine to make PCD the best choice for wire shaving dies for producing high-quality aluminum welding wire.
Advantages of PCD Aluminum Welding Wire Shaving Dies:
● The life of PCD wire shaving dies is 10-30 times longer than tungsten carbide. In the time
that a box of tungsten carbide dies have worn out and been discarded, one PCD wire
shaving die will still have the exact diameter required, and be producing a clean and shiny,
high-quality surface on the wire.
● The cutting edge of a PCD wire shaving die can be dressed many times, allowing PCD wire
shaving dies to be reused over and over. When the hole diameter finally becomes oversized,
SFD can rework the die to make the next larger wire size.
● Considering its original use and then redressing, the ultimate life of PCD wire shaving dies can
be up to 100 times longer than tungsten carbide dies.
● The PCD wire shaving die cutting edge is very hard and stays sharp. Also the thermal conductivity
of PCD is several times higher than tungsten carbide. As a result, the wire shavings cut by PCD
are characteristically longer and thinner than those made by tungsten carbide dies. In many cases,
this means that the use of coolants in the wire shaving process not required with PCD wire shaving
dies.
● The wire surface finish formed by PCD wire shaving dies is smooth and shiny, and is much less likely
to be discolored or oxidized.
● The wire diameter after shaving with PDC wire shaving dies is more consistent in size than when
using tungsten carbide dies.
● PCD wire shaving dies are suitable for aluminum, aluminum-magnesium and aluminum-silicon welding
wires.
