Galfan wire is specified where increased corrosion resistance is required ¨C marine or polluted environments
or where improved physical performance is required.

Galfan coatings offer 2 to 4 times the corrosion resistance of normal galvanized wire with the increase dependent on the environment. Such claims are backed by ongoing field testing of Galfan coated samples.

Galfan wire is capable of 90% diameter reduction without serious loss of zinc or galling of the coating. It is thus well suited for re-drawing and subsequent use in products such as fine ropes.

Coating adhesion is much superior to that of normally galvanizined wire allowing the coated wire to withstand much more sever machine operations without loss of coating.

The increased corrosion resistance is as a result of the presence of significant levels of Aluminium in the coating. The oxidised outer coating layer is more resistant to dissolution and removal when these levels of aluminium are present ¨C the aluminium oxides are less inclined to dissolve than zinc oxides.
