The Cervelo R3 is such a successful design, that it remains fundamentally unchanged since its inception in 2006, setting the standard for lightweight yet stiff, strong and comfortable frames over the past seven years. Cervelo has garnered accolades aplenty for the R3, but perhaps most impressive is this; out of seven starts at the Paris Roubaix, three of the R3's 6 podium finishes were wins.

Packed with features that optimize the light, stiff, and comfortable trifecta, the R3 relies on cutting-edge engineering and materials to dominate the competition. Squoval-shaped tubes are ultra-stable laterally and resist torsional stress very well. When combined with high-modulus carbon and Cervelo's own ComfortPly layup, the frame allows for a lighter build without sacrificing stiffness or compliance. The top tube is Squoval shaped at the head tube and seat tube junctions to combat lateral bending, and flows into an oval shape in the middle where torsional resistance is more important. The down tube is Squoval tubing from head tube to the bottom bracket. The BB area is made to be as stiff as it gets using the BBright bottom bracket standard.
