 General Instruction

The compression testing machine has been designed to meet the need for reliable and consistent testing.

It is also used for determine the compressive strength of concrete, brick, stone and other building materials.

The load frame is a welded steel fabrication carrying the ball-seated upper platen. Positively located on the loading ram which is protected from debris by a flexible cover, the lower platen is marked for the centering of cube and cylinder specimens.

Specimen capacity

The dimensions of the frame allow the testing of concrete cylinders up to 320 mm long × 160 mm diameter, 100 mm and 150 mm and 200 mm square cubes. All the machines can be used to test 50 mm / 2 inch mortar cubes to ASTM C 109 and 40 × 40 × 160 mm mortar prisms to EN 196.

Distance Pieces

Distance pieces are used to reduce the amount of vertical space between the upper platen and the top surface of the specimen.

Standard size distance pieces have a nominal diameter of 180 mm. BS 1881 distance pieces are nominally 220 mm diameter in accordance with the standard specification.

Effective depths are 20 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm and 100 mm.
