The ferrosilicon is the Fe-Si alloy produced by coke, steel scraps and quartz (or silica) through electric furnace smelting. The silicon is easily to react with oxygen to form silicon dioxide. Thus the ferrosilicon is usually used as the deoxidizant during the steel making. Besides, because the production of SiO2 will release large amount of heat, it is also helpful to increase the temperature of molten steel. Ferrosilicon in the cast iron can be used as the inoculants of ductile iron and can also prevent from the formation of carbide, and improve the performance of cast iron.
