 Iron Dextran injection

INDICATIONS:
Antianemic. And mainly used on Piglets, Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency diseases, in particular hypochromic, microcytic anaemia of piglets.
CONTRAINDICTATIONS:  Acute vitamin E deficiency and Selenium deficiency
ADVERSE REACTIONS: Tissue discoloration and/ or local oedema may occur at the injection site, but will subside in few days. Interactions with other drugs: Mixing of iron dextran for injection with other preparations should be avoided, so as not to impair its stability, efficacy and tolerability
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Deep intramuscular injection Piglets: 1ml l ( third day after birth)
Piglets are given 1ml iron dextran for injection by deep intra-muscular injection on the third day after birth. This will ensure an adequate supply of iron for growth until a body weigt of approximately 6-7 kg is reached, and until iron intake from supplementary or starter feeds begins. In herds, which are risk of anaemia before the birth of piglets, it is recommended to ensure that the sows have an adequate intake of vitamin E. grown-up swine 5-10 ml per time
