Advantage:

Mainly used in places and objects with metal interference, such as production line, steel mills, vehicle management, garbage truck etc.

It's similar as RS232 interface which take the initiative to upload the signal, no need the controller, connected to the computer and see the card numbers directly.

The single RS485 is similar with RS232 interface, actively upload signal, without controller. When connect to computer, you can see card ID directly.

RS232: Short signal transmission range, about 30 meters, Medium anti-interference ability.

The single RS485: Up to 2kmtheory transmission range, strong anti-interference, high speed card reading ability, suitable for moving objects.

For example, the vehicle can only use single RS485. Install card reader at bottom of the car, put  card in certain place on the road, single RS485 can finish card reading and data uploading even in the40km/hspeed.

In a metal interference environment, you can only use Single RS485.

For example, factory management, large area and long distance.

Because by RS232, the distance between card reader and computer can't exceed 30 meters. But by Single RS485, the reading range can reach 2 kilometers.

Compared with WG and standard RS485, you don't need to use controller, but to control the card reader on computers directly.
