What is angular contact ball bearing?

Similar to other ball bearings,  angular contact ball bearing are compose of inner and outer races, ball complement and bearing cage; however, different to other ball bearings like a deep groove ball bearing, an angular contact ball bearing is designed with axially asymmetric race.

As a result, angular contact ball bearings are more suitable for supporting "combined loads" (loading in both the radial and axial directions); pure axial-load supporting in one direction is also possible. Generally speaking, the supporting capability for an axial load; and at the same time, the smaller the supporting capability for a radial load.

According to  angular contact ball bearing manufacturers, single-row, and double-row  angular contact ball bearings are both popular ones in the market. A single row  angular contact ball bearing is suitable for carrying axial-load acting in one direction only; as a result, they are usually used in pairs or multi-arrangement in many applications.
