Stanozolol, commonly sold under the name Winstrol (oral) and Winstrol Depot (intramuscular), is a synthetic anabolic steroid derived from . It was developed by American pharmaceutical company Winthrop Laboratories (Sterling Drug) in 1962, and has been approved by the  for human use.

Unlike most injectable anabolic steroids, stanozolol is not esterified and is sold as an aqueous suspension, or in oral tablet form. The drug has a high oral , due to a C17 alpha-alkylation which allows the hormone to survive first-pass liver metabolism when ingested.  The functions and traits of Stanozolol are numerous and can be best understood by looking at each one individually:

Reduction of SHBG: Stanozolol has the ability to significantly reduce Sex-Hormone-Binding-Globulin (SHGB). In fact, data has shown Stanozolol can reduce SHBG by as much as 50% making it one of the most effective medications available for such a function. SHBG is one of the primary factors that determine how much in the body is free or bound; higher SHBG means less free testosterone, which represents our active and usable testosterone. When SHBG is lowered more testosterone is available for use. Equally important for the steroid user is that other steroids that may be used are more effective when SHBG is lower.

Protein Synthesis: Protein synthesis refers to the rate in which cells build proteins, the building block of muscle tissue. With Stanozolol the rate of protein synthesis is increased.

Nitrogen Retention: All muscle tissue is comprised of 16% nitrogen and when adequate amounts are not retained we enter into a catabolic (muscle wasting) state. Higher rates of nitrogen retention results in a greater anabolic (muscle building) state.

Red blood cells: Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen through the blood. Stanozolol will increase red blood cell count resulting in greater oxygen flow and thereby enhanced muscular endurance

Dosage

Without question Stanozolol is far more beneficial to a cutting cycle than it is a bulking cycle and many gym rats and competitive bodybuilders supplement with this steroid for just that purpose. Standard Winstrol doses will generally fall in the 50mg per day range for 6-8 weeks with some individuals choosing to go as high as 100mg per day for the entire duration of use.

This is a bit of a high dose and can be fairly stressful to the liver as it is very hepatic and can further really curve your lipid profiles in a negative way. We can however make an exception with a higher Winstrol doses but only in short term fashion but it can be very useful.

Winstrol doses of 100mg per day for the competitive bodybuilder the last 10-14 days before a competition can be very useful and as this is a very short period of time the liver and lipid issues are not as great of a concern. Many competitive bodybuilders will supplement with the Stanozolol hormone at 50mg per day for 6 weeks and then increase it to 100mg every day right before a show for the last two weeks to really add an additional level of hardness to their physique.
