First of all, to understand the characteristics of oil-based and water-based cutting fluid. In general, the lubricate performance of oil-based cutting fluid is better. the cooling performance of water-based cutting fluid is better. And the emulsion has lubrication, anti-rust property, cooling and cleaning property, but easy to produce micro-organisms and deterioration. SKALN Oil helps you do the following analysis in two ways:
1.about the workpiece material:
for some materials that difficult to process should choose the cutting fluid with high activity, anti-wear, extreme pressure additives; for some materials that easy to process should choose the cutting fluid without extreme pressure additives.
When cutting Non-ferrous metals and light metal, and the cutting force and cutting temperature are not high, please choose mineral oil and high concentrations of emulsion.
When cutting Alloy steel, if the cutting amount is low, the surface roughness requirements are smaller (such as broaching and thread cutting), so can choose extreme pressure cutting oil and high concentration emulsion. When cutting Cast iron and bronze and other brittle materials, the cutting often formed collapse broken chips, easy to flow with the cutting fluid everywhere, flow into the machine between the guide parts damage, you can use low concentrations of emulsion with good cooling and cleaning performance.
2. about processing methods:
When higher cutting speed and rough cutting process (such as turning, milling, drilling), require cutting fluid with good cooling performance, then should use water-based cutting fluid and low concentration of emulsion.
in some precision high-strength processing (such as broaching, tapping, deep hole drilling, gear processing), this time cutting fluid with excellent lubrication performance, you can choose extreme pressure cutting oil and high concentration of emulsion.
A. Tool steel tool: the heat resistance of such tools in the 200 - 300, poor heat resistance, high temperature will lose hardness, so use the cutting fluid with good cooling performance and low concentrations of emulsion is appropriate.
B. High-speed steel cutting tools: high-speed rough cutting, large cutting quantity, resulting in a lot of cutting heat, to avoid damage to the workpiece and affect processing quality, should choose good water-based cutting fluid; if high-speed steel tool for low processing and in order to reduce the friction between the tool and the workpiece, inhibit the formation of cutting tumors to improve the processing accuracy, generally choose oil-based cutting fluid or high concentration of emulsion.
C. Carbide tools: such tools have higher melting point and hardness, better chemical and thermal stability. Oil-based cutting fluid can be used in general processing.When it's heavy cutting, high cutting temperature, easy to wear the tool quickly, you should use the cooling lubricating fluid with adequate flow, and the 3% - 5% emulsion is appropriate (by spray to cooling will be better).
D. Ceramic tools, adamas tools, cubic boron nitride tools: these tools hardness and wear resistance is high, cutting generally do not use cutting fluid, and sometimes can use water-based cutting fluid.
