II. Service Life of ADSS Optical Cable

ADSS optical cable is installed on high voltage transmission line, its general life is more than 25 years, and there are many factors affecting its life.

the main factors are:

(1) the gradient of the high-voltage induced electric field near the tower varies greatly, and the high-voltage induced electric field corrodes the cable strongly. PE type for overhead power lines with KV and below, and AT type for lines with 110KV and above.

(2) for double-circuit poles and towers, consideration should be given to the selection of suspension points due to power failure in the primary circuit of the line or the transformation of the line.

(3) When the line passes through the working area with salt fog and acid gas, the chemical substances will corrode the outer skin of the optical cable, and the protective sheath of the cable is damaged, which is vulnerable to arc damage.

(4) Improper construction results in skin damage or abrasion, which is easy to corrode when running in long-term high-voltage electric field. Smooth and smooth outer sheath can effectively reduce electrical corrosion and prolong service life.
