Specifications

The Microchip RN4871 BLE module is based on the IS187x Bluetooth RF SoC and is ideal for easily adding wireless connectivity to your IoT and wearable designs. The RN4871 provides a control interface to the IS187x IC, based on ASCII commands over UART.

BLE stands for Bluetooth Low Energy (sometimes referred to as Bluetooth Smart) which is a version of Bluetooth with very low power consumption, perfect for compact portable devices. With the addition of a Bluetooth device, such as a BLE-enabled smartphone, the RN4871 also enables you to control and monitor your application remotely.

The RN4871 Bluetooth module provides a complete solution to implement Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy connectivity, in a compact form factor. The module is interfaced to a host MCU via a UART serial port using Microchip’s ASCII command set for easy integration into most applications. The module can be dynamically configured by the host MCU with a few simple ASCII commands. The RN4871 also supports onboard scripting to automate basic operations enabling it to stand alone without a host microcontroller.
