Scandium is a silvery white metal with metallic luster, which turns yellow or pink when exposed to the air. Density: 2.99 g/mL at 25 °C(lit.), relative vapor density (g/ml, air = 1): 2.992, melting point: 1540 ° C (lit.), boiling point: 2836 ° C (lit.),soluble in dilute acid. |
Stability: |
Scandium metal will turn light yellow or light pink when oxidized in the air, which is easy to burn. It reacts with water to produce hydrogen, and reacts with acid to produce salt. In other chemical properties, it is almost the same as yttrium and other rare earth metal elements. It will not decompose if used and stored according to specifications. Avoid contact with air, oxides, halogen, moisture. |
Production Process: |
99%-99.9% purity scandium metal is produced by reduction process of scandium oxide powder.the higher purity of 99.99% scandium metal is formed by continuous distillation and zone melting of reduced scandium metal. |
Applications: |
Scandium metal is applied in optical coating, catalyst, electronic ceramics and laser industry. the main application of Scandium by weight is in Aluminium-Scandium alloys for minor aerospace industry components.
