Trade name: Teak Origin: Burma, Thailand, Java and Brazil Appearance and Properties: Teak is a medium-weight timber which is rather soft and has a very characteristic appearance. The heartwood is often dull yellowish when freshly cut but it turns golden brown or sometimes dark grayish-brown after exposure, often streaked grayish or blackish; The sapwood is yellowish-white or pale yellowish-brown and up to 50mm thick. The wood is oily to the touch, and when freshly cut it has a smell reminiscent of leather. The grain of the wood is straight, wavy or slightly interlocked.
