The cores are wound from Grain Oriented silicon steel strips of different widths, the cross-section is approximately round. The cores are annealed in high vacuum furnace under protection atmosphere. The impregnation is done in vacuum impregnating equipment. Single phase and three phase cores are available. Comparing to the laminated core with the same rated power, step-R-cores have obvious advantages of low no-load loss, small volume, light etc. It is widely used in medium and small power distribution transformers.
