In 1806 Napoleon Bonaparte promoted the Duchy of Bavaria to 慘ingdom? and the ruling Duke became Maximilian I, King of Bavaria. Befitting his new status, the King ordered the magnificent regalia, which can be seen today in the Treasury at The Residents Palace in Munich. Made in 1806 by Biennais, the most famous French Goldsmith of the bay, with rubies, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and pearls.
